London for work and play

For the first time since working for Catapult, Derek and I had to travel at the same time – to the UK over the week of Halloween! We had quite a flight to get there too – San Jose to Denver, hand the kids over to my parents, flight from Denver to Chicago and finally an overnighter to London. Phew! Luckily we got to start the trip off with having some fun. Justin and Amy were great enough to drive from Brussels to meet up with us in Wimbledon just south of London. We stayed at a cute little B&B and tooled around London via the underground.
It was awesome getting to see our nephew August whom we hadn’t seen since our trip to Yellowstone last year. What a great kid! He was such a trooper with us dragging him around London all weekend.
I think we hit just about every tourist thing you could do in London in the short time we had – Buckingham Palace, pub, climb up St. Paul’s, Tower of London, pub, tickets to a show, pub, British Museum, …. Wow – what a trip!
Then it was time to work… off to Bath for a week of hitting the spa? I wish! No…instead…a week of being in a conference room all day, every day that happened to be in a spa hotel – and a beautiful one at that.
Oh well, maybe next time. 🙂 Bath is beautiful, but unfortunately not much time to see it. We did manage to finish our meetings early on that Thursday and all of us there went to check out the old Roman baths.
After finishing our meetings in Bath, Derek and I went back up to London for our last two nights. Derek had to meet with a company Friday morning up near Cambridge, so I of course went shopping. Unfortunately didn’t buy much – have you seen the exchange rate!! Ouch! We finished off with an evening of walking around London, past Big Ben and a ride on the London Eye where we were treated with fireworks going off around the city for “remember, remember, the 5th of November”. Then next morning… London->Chicago->Denver->get kids->and back to San Jose. 🙂 The kids of course had a complete blast in Colorado with Grandma and Grandpa Townley. The only disappointment was that they still had to do homework. 🙂
