Merry Christmas!

The Christmas activities started last Wednesday when James’ kindergarten class put on a shortened version of the Nutcracker. Our little toy soldier and the rest of the kindergarten class were beaming.
Then for some reason we determined that just our two kids high on sugar wouldn’t create quite enough Christmas chaos on their own, so in a momentary lack of judgment we invited some of the kid’s friends over to decorate cookies. It would have been interesting to have had a meter in the house to measure the decibels reached in our kitchen that day! 🙂
We had actually hoped to have all of the kids help decorate a gingerbread house as well, but Derek and I quickly learned we were having some structural issues with our design. We ended up having to enhance our frosting glue and try again and then had to let it set up overnight. Probably for the best. We had a great time with just Theresa’s friend Emma from next door helping us out the next day with the final decorations.
We finished off Christmas Eve night by finding some highlighted houses with some amazing light displays. The favorites were one that had over 24,000 lights that was synced to music and activated by pushing one of those Staples Easy buttons at the front of their lawn (too funny) and 2 houses that went in together with countless lights all synced to songs broadcast on a localized FM station complete with snow making machine!!
It was a late night, but that didn’t stop the kids from getting up at 6:00am to check out Santa’s handy work that went on while they were sleeping. As usual, it was quite the haul creating visions of the future of going through their room to clear out the old to make room for the new.
Christmas day was spent of course playing with the new stuff. Even Derek had a cool new toy to play with – Guitar Hero III on the Wii. Awesome (and addicting) game! When I went to bed past 11pm, Derek was still rocking on. I have no idea when he finally made it to bed. 🙂
The pets had a great Christmas too! Our cat Belle spent the day taking turns sleeping in the different boxes that were now void of presents…even if they happened to be WAY too small for her to fit in.
I hope everyone had as wonderful of a Christmas as we did and we wish you all a very Happy New Year!!
